- United States Major Roads is a polyline theme representing interstates, U.S. and state highways, major streets, and other major thoroughfares within the United States. Attribute information includes the name, FCC code and type of road. This dataset is a part of the 2010 ESRI Data Maps collection.
- Purpose
- United States Major Roads provides an invaluable reference and cartographic layer that make it easy to identify areas in other data sets. U.S. Major Roads overlays accurately on streets and other boundary data.

- Largest scale when displaying the data: 1:50,000. This dataset comes with an ESRI layer file symbolizing the features.

- Logical Consistency Report
- The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either tools in ArcGIS or ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2). The SDC data set is then imported into a file geodatabase to verify and validate the geometry.
- Completeness Report
- After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
- Horizontal positional accuracy is dependent on geographic area. In most areas, accuracy is between 5 and 25 meters (16 and 82 feet). In some areas, accuracy is off by up to several tens of meters (100 feet or more). In the poorest areas, accuracy is off by up to 100 meters (328 feet).
