- United States Telephone Area Code Boundaries is a polygon theme representing the telephone area codes for the United States. They are also known as Numbering Plan Areas (NPA). The Numbering Plan Areas reflect current and accurate boundary changes both where new NPAs split from existing NPAs and where new NPAs overlay existing NPAs.

- The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then imported into a file geodatabase to verify, validate, and if needed repair the geometry.
- Completeness Report
- After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
- The horizontal positional accuracy is difficult to determine since the boundaries may follow state, county, city, or other political boundaries. Still other times they may follow streets or other linear features in the database. Since these features are derived from different sources, it is not possible to give a single overall figure for horizontal accuracy.
