To mark the Charter's 20th anniversary, the Centre for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC) commissioned a national public opinion survey to measure what Canadians think about the Charter and how the courts have interpreted its specific clauses. The survey provides insight into how attitudes about the Charter have evolved. Results for a survey of this size can be considered accurate to within plus or minus 2.6%, nineteen times out of twenty. The survey is the most extensive conducted on
rights and freedoms in Canada since 1987.

The survey was conducted on behalf of CRIC by Environics Research Group.
