This point layer depicts cultural or man-made landmarks in and around Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq. Features shown here include: government buildings, hospitals, hotels, mosques, former palaces (now occupied by civilian or military authorities) and various transportation features like bus depots, bus stations and garages.
Please note that this datalayer was produced before the start of armed conflict in Baghdad (March-April, 2003) so some of these features may have been destroyed or severely damaged since that period.
Purpose
This layer is intended for researchers, students, and policy makers for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production. This layer will provide a basemap for layers related to socio-economic and political anaylsis, statistical enumeration and analysis, or to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. More advanced user applications may focus on urban and rural land use planning, infrastructure or economic analysis and related areas including defining boundaries, managing assets and facilities, integrating attribute databases with geographic features, spatial analysis, and presentation output.
The dataset originator (LeadDog Consulting, LLC.) states that their product is designed, "...for the vehicle tracking and routing industry. Designed to help post-war companies track their assets."
