Abstract
Point location coverage for Administrative capital cities (Shi and Do or Municipalities and Provincial) and the national capital of North Korea.
Purpose
These data are intended for researchers, students, urban and regional planners, and policy makers for reference and mapping purposes, and to provide users with geographic data for cartography, local and regional planning analysis, urban and rural policy-making, environmental monitoring, management and impact analysis, economic analysis and other types of geographic analysis. These data can be used with geographic information systems (GIS) software to display and analyze information on land use and planning and associated areas of interest, or to provide a basemap, (e.g. for labeling town names on maps), to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data.
Supplemental Information
Points in this coverage are identified with arbitrary 7 place codes that utilize the ADM2_Codes for the first two digits, followed by .01. Names of the capitals are generally the same as the administrative units they govern, but lack designation as shi or do. Places are identified according to their administrative status as cities. ADM1 codes and names are also provided. Data originally supplied in ARC/INFO 7.2 export format (.e00), and are projected in decimal degrees using the WGS84 Spheroid/Datum.
