Abstract
Morphologic Structure, 1996 is a polygon theme representing morphostructure worldwide. Attribute information includes the morphologic type, group, class and subclass.
Purpose
For educational, non-commercial purposes. This dataset is appropriate for use in a GIS.
Supplemental Information
Morphostructure is the study of large or global landforms such as plains, highlands, ranges, plateaus, and tablelands. These landforms result from the historic interaction of endogenic and exogenic processes, with endogenic factors predominating. The largest morphostructural elements (geotectures) are (1) plain and platform areas, (2) orogens, and (3) marginal and intermontane troughs, which are transitional zones between the first two geotectures. Geotectures are classified into types, often based on their genesis.
