Abstract
World Transport Network Density, 1996 is a polygon theme representing the density of major transportation routes worldwide.
Purpose
For educational, non-commercial purposes. This dataset is appropriate for use in a GIS.
Supplemental Information
Transportation performs specific functions. Most important, it generates impulses for economic and social development and it serves as an indicator of a region's social and economic characteristics. A well-developed transport network can increase a region's ability to compete for population and economic development. The density of the transport network is typically used to evaluate the transport provision of a region, which is a qualitative and quantitative measure of transport development. Transport provision is an integral characteristic of a region.
