- Abstract
- United States Public Land Surveys is a polygon theme representing the Public Land Surveys (for example, donation lands, land grants, and public and private surveys of public lands) of the United States. Attribute information includes the survey area type, the township and range designation for the area, the name, state , township, range and size of the area. This dataset is a part of the 2008 ESRI Data Maps collection.
- Purpose

- Data Quality Information
- Logical Consistency Report
- The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2) or tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDE to verify and validate the geometry.
- Completeness Report
- After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
- The geospatial part of this data set was originally extracted from 1:500,000 and 1:1,000,000-scale state base maps for the western U.S. states and USGS topographic 1:100,000-scale maps for the eastern U.S. states. Data from both sources were integrated into the 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. The positional accuracy of the 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files is known to be 1,720 meters. The positional accuracies of the other sources are unknown.
