- Abstract
- World Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zones is a polygon theme representing the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zones of the world. This dataset is a part of the 2008 ESRI Data and Maps Collection.
- Purpose
- World Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zones provides the zones and the latitude and longitude values that are used to project each six-degree-wide zone according to the UTM projection.

- Data Quality Information
- Logical Consistency Report
- The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2) or tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDE to verify and validate the geometry.
- Completeness Report
- After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
- The horizontal positional accuracy is unknown.

- Entity Type Definition
- The polygons represent the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zones, which, lie between 84 degrees north and 80 degrees south latitude. With few exceptions, they divide the world into sixty zones, each of which is six degrees of longitude wide. The zones are numbered from 1 through 60 eastward from 180 degrees longitude. The zone characters designate eight degrees of latitude high rows extending north and south from the equator with the exception of the northern-most row which is 12 degrees high.
