World Map Background is a polygon theme representing grid cells of 30 by 30 degrees that cover the world.
This dataset is a part of the 2008 ESRI Data and Maps Collection.
Purpose
World Map Background provides for displaying a shaded background on which other data can be displayed. For example, use the World Map Background to quickly display a blue ocean theme behind other land-based themes such as World Countries.

Data Quality Information
Logical Consistency Report
The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2) or tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDE to verify and validate the geometry.
Completeness Report
After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
The geospatial part of this data set was mathematically generated using the ARC/INFO GRID extension. In this manner, the locations were computed. The positional accuracy is limited only by the resolution of the data set, which is less than a meter.
